Sulbactam is a semi-synthetic beta-lactamase inhibitor. The beta-lactam ring of sulbactam irreversibly binds to beta-lactamase at or abreast its alive site, thereby blocking agitator action and preventing metabolism of added beta-lactam antibiotics by the enzyme. Combining this abettor with a beta-lactamase affected antibiotic, such as penicillins or a cephalosporin, to amusement infections acquired by beta-lactamase bearing organisms, after-effects in a decreased about-face amount of the beta-lactamase acute antibacterial and enhances its antibacterial activity.
