Introduction

Trabectedin is a marine-derived tetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloid originally isolated from the sea squirt Ecteinascidia turbinata. It binds to the minor groove of DNA at the N2 position of guanine, causing DNA bending and interfering with transcription and repair processes, ultimately inducing apoptosis in tumor cells. Trabectedin has shown strong antineoplastic activity against several types of cancers, especially soft tissue sarcomas and ovarian cancers.
